At Old Park Primary School, we are committed to creating a culture where every child feels safe, valued, respected and empowered. Our safeguarding curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to recognise risks, make safe choices, seek help when needed, and develop healthy, positive relationships throughout their lives.
Through an age-appropriate, progressive curriculum, we teach children how to safeguard their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing both in school and beyond. Pupils learn about personal safety, healthy relationships, online safety, diversity and inclusion, managing risks, emotional health, and their rights and responsibilities as members of the community. This curriculum is delivered through a carefully planned programme of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), friendships and relationships lessons, safeguarding-focused assemblies, class discussions, themed awareness events and wider pastoral opportunities, ensuring that key safeguarding messages are revisited and reinforced throughout each child's time at school.
Our curriculum reflects the needs of our local community in Telford and prepares pupils to navigate an increasingly complex world. We work in partnership with families, external agencies and the wider community to ensure safeguarding messages are consistent, relevant and meaningful. We aim to develop resilient, respectful and responsible young people who understand how to protect themselves and others, know where to access support, and feel confident to speak up if they are worried about their own safety or that of someone else.
By embedding safeguarding throughout all aspects of school life, we strive to ensure that every child leaves our school with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe, thrive and make a positive contribution to society.
"Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility, and empowering children to keep themselves safe is at the heart of our curriculum."
