At Old Park, we embrace that every child is unique and arrives at school with their own interests, knowledge and a desire to explore. As a team we work together to create a sense of ‘Belonging’ by getting to know each individual and ensuring our curriculum offer is reflective of our pupils.
As soon as children enter Old Park, we have created a vocabulary rich environment, as we value the importance of early communication and language through quality adult interactions. We invest in books, time to read and our early reading offer as we understand that reading contributes to our aim of creating lifelong learners.
Our school recognises that sometimes pupils may need additional support. Therefore, we work together to identify pupils’ needs quickly and provide the right support at the right time. We achieve this through creating a team around the child with a strong skill set, who understand every child’s needs are individual and work closely with parents and carers.
Throughout our school we live our values of ‘Belonging’, ‘Respect’ and ‘Responsibility’ and these are the values we as a team show to parents and carers. We work hard to ensure a seamless beginning into school for our young learners by carrying out nursery visits, transition days and information events for new starters. Our team provide parent workshops to create strong links from school to home, ensuring every child has a strong start to their learning journey.
Welcome to the Nursery at Old Park Primary School. We work closely with the rest of the school, especially the Reception classes, creating meaningful experiences that support children’s development and helping them to ‘Reach for Success’.

For local funding information please visit: https://www.telford.gov.uk/children-and-young-people/nurseries-and-childcare/funded-childcare-for-children-from-9-months-to-4-years-old/
Funding begins from the term after a child’s 2nd or 3rd birthday. The nursery terms begin in September, January and April.
The nursery is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm during term time. We are closed for 5 days over the year, these are the same days as Old Park Primary School, dates can be found here (Old Park Primary School - Term Dates).
The Nursery is laid out over three spacious rooms. The rooms promote opportunities for exploring and developing new skills through carefully planned activities and continuous provision in the different areas within the room. All rooms have direct access to an outside area where children can develop gross motor skills and experience the changes in weather and seasons throughout the year.
- Squirrels is our two-year-old class.
- Owls is our three-four-year-old 30hour class.
- Badgers is the AM three-four-year-old 15hour class/Foxes is the PM three-four-year-old class
- Hedgehogs is our SEND class, children access this provision following discussion with parents and the SENCo.
Owls, Badgers and Foxes share one large space, with separate areas for each group to complete individual carpet activities. Children in these classes wear the school uniform, developing a stronger sense of ‘Belonging’ in preparation for them joining the Reception classes the following year.
In a typical day we will listen to stories, sing nursery rhymes and songs, subitise, count, solve practical problems, create, mark make, share snack and build friendships with those learning with us.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Old Park Nursery.
We welcome our reception children at 8:40am with toast or a bagel to prepare them for a day of learning and adventures.
During the morning, children are taught maths through Number Sense and our tailor-made maths curriculum supported by Whiterose which emphasises the use of concrete resources and clear models and images. To teach early reading we use Read Write Inc. to deliver a systematic way of learning sounds and the letters that represents the sounds.
At 11:40 children go into our main school hall for lunch. This is another opportunity for children to socialise and try different foods from our school kitchen.
In the afternoon, we use our curriculum designed around development matters to build on Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. We also provide children with a session a week in our Meadow, where children become the leaders of their own learning, while learning through play in our large outdoor green space.
Throughout the day we provide opportunities to learn nursery rhymes, to hear stories and continually create a sense of belonging.
Our school day ends at 3:15pm, however, we offer WRAP around care for children from Reception to Year 6.
WRAP Around Care:
Old Park Primary School - Breakfast Club
Old Park Primary School - After School Club
At Old Park Primary, the EYFS four guiding principles shape our practice. These are:
• Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can show resilience, perseverance and confidence.
• Children can learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
• Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
• Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
The EYFS learning and development requirements comprise:
• The seven areas of learning and development;
• The early learning goals, which summarise the knowledge, skills and understanding that all young children should have gained by the end of the Reception Year; and
• The assessment requirements (when and how practitioners must assess children’s achievements).
At Old Park we support learning through the 3 prime areas and the 4 specific areas:
Prime Areas:
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
Specific Areas:
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design.
