Nature Friendly School

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.“ (David Attenborough)

"What is the good of your stars and trees, your sunrise and the wind, if they do not enter into our daily lives?"(E.M. Forster)

"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.“ (Laura Ingalls Wilder)

Our curriculum intent:

Old Park Primary School is proud to be a Nature Friendly School. This means we embrace the great outdoors and welcome any opportunity to take our education outside. Nature is an extension of our classrooms, offering different locations and different resources for children to learn from. Children can explore the trees in the forest, get their hands dirty planting flowers in the garden or enjoy the lush greenery of the meadow. Learning outside fuels pupils’ creativity, allowing them to fully and confidently express themselves in ways they may not be able to indoors. Evidence shows that spending even a short time outside can improve well-being and mental health, while teaching resilience and problem-solving skills. As a school we also want to promote concern for the environment and by spending time in nature, children have a better appreciation for our world and how to care for it.
