PE

Subject Leaders - Mr A Parton and Mrs H Gaunt

“Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong.” (John F. Kennedy)

“Sport has literally changed my life. I’m here because of sport. It has given me a lot of confidence, a lot of courage, and a lot of discipline. It’s helped me to be the person that I’ve grown to be today.” (Serena Williams)

Our curriculum intent:

Old Park Primary School recognises and values the importance of Physical Education (PE). Through high quality PE teaching, we aim to provide a fun, high-quality PE curriculum which is inclusive and engages all pupils in a supportive and challenging environment. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities will be offered to all children in order to build confidence and character. We are passionate about the need to teach children how to collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and respect.

Adhering to the national curriculum for Physical Education, we ensure that all children:

• develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

• are physically active for sustained periods of time

• engage in competitive sports and activities

• lead healthy, active lives

Improving health and well-being, promoting active lifestyles and lifelong participation in sport are key aims. Physical Education is a positive and motivating experience and will support children’s focus across the whole primary curriculum. As a school we will celebrate our own sporting achievements and the successes of others with maturity.
