Geography

“The study of geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map.  It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents.  And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.” (Barack Obama)

“Geography is a subject which holds the key to our future” (Michael Palin)

“Geography isa living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. Its dynamic and relevant.  For me geography is a great adventure with a purpose.” (Michael Palin)

Our curriculum intent:

Geography at Old Park encourages children to understand, appreciate and explore the physical and human aspects of our developing planet. Through a creative and imaginative approach, children are granted opportunities to recognise their own place in the world and how we, as humans, interact with it. We achieve this by focusing initially on immediate, familiar locality before gradually expanding our learning into a variety of diverse locations, features and communities across the globe. Pupils enjoy practical and active learning, applying geographical skills such as map-reading and exploring nature in a range of fieldwork studies. We want children to be intrigued and fascinated by our world, to ask questions about the Earth and its many wonderful characteristics and to seek answers that satisfy their curiosity.
