"Religions are different roads converging to the same point.  What does it matter that we take different roads as long as we reach the same goal?  In reality there are as many different religions as there are individuals." (Gandhi)

“A school needs to be a place for all children, not based on the idea that they are all the same but they are all different.” (Loris Malaguzzi)

“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” (Dr. Maria Montessori)

Our curriculum intent:

At Old Park Primary school, we have designed our R.E curriculum with an enquiry-based approach.  We encourage our children to ask the bigger questions in life and develop their own critical thinking techniques to prepare them for a life in a world with a multitude of viewpoints.

Our intent is that children will develop their emotional literacy, be accepting of others’ religious, cultural, and social backgrounds so that they will question their own values and morals and make connections within their local community and the wider world in which they live.

We encourage and promote this in different ways:

  • We require our learners to have respect for others and an open mind.
  • We want our children to develop resilient responses towards stereotyping, misunderstandings and division and mature with their own identity, self-awareness, and ability to reflect on their actions and the actions of others.
  • By invoking curiosity and wonder beyond their own experiences, through social stories, questioning and welcoming visitors to gain lifelong skills and live happier and healthier lives.

We aim to create links with our local church and gurdwara to embrace the community in which our school is situated and in order for the children to be able to ask questions in a safe environment where they can create their own understanding and develop empathy towards others.
